Is a new card required?

As it stands, we have a number of cards - Voter ID, PAN card, Driving License, Ration card, Senior Citizens Card, etc. Would it have been prudent to make the PAN card as unique instead of going for an entirely new one?

  1. the pan card would have been ideal. but there are many in this country who still don't file IT returns and do not pay taxes. so a new card will be needed. the other IDs that you mention are not workable solutions obviously.

  2. Even if you do not file your Income Tax returns, you can own a pan card. The PAN card can indeed be made a compulsory card. But how to ensure than no one has 2 cards - that is beyond me. How to prevent duplicate pan cards is beyond me. if someone comes into my store and offers a pan card as a proof, I should be able to verify that it is indeed a valid card. Verification facility should be given so that it can be instantly authenticated.

Or assume that someone buys a sim card. right now they take DL or ration card as a proof. But can they really authenticate it? No - they can't. So someone can buy a sim card and use it to set off a bomb, and no one is wiser for it. It does not matter which card you make as unique (though a PAN card makes sense). Business establishments should be given the facility to authenticate it instantly before giving service to the card holder.

  3. The social security card nandan is making should have all relevant entries , like pan, licence, voter id, . the moment you flash it into a machine, like ATM, THE SCREEN in the computer should show up 100 odd data it is having. THAT is my dream of this card. YOU SHOULD HAVE THE FACILITY TO UPGRADE or TOP up more data as and when required. LIKE say a fund transfer scheme for BPL categories which GOVT has just announced or a flood relief benefit or a change of constituency of a person or change of house number and 100 such other changes as and when required. 5. Yes,This card will make very good impact in the individual citizens of India. It should be something like a SSN wherein it cannot be duplicated.. eg a person can have multiple passports i don't know how but this should not be duplicated... it would rather help all the cyber crimes and other illigal activities.

  6. I think that PAN card take the place of Unique card but problem with PAN card that besides human being an institute or organization can also hold PAN card. So I think it will be better to issue either National Unique Identity card or we can also use passport number instead of NUI card.

Yes,This card will make very good impact in the individual citizens of India.

BUT IN THIS CARD THERE SHOULD BE AN UNIQUE FEATURES WHICH CAN EASILY IDENTIFY THE INTUDERS WHO WILL USE DUPLICATE OF THIS CARD. BEFORE ISSUING CARD I THINK IT IS VERY NECESSARY TO SECURE THE SYSTEM OF ISSUING THIS CARD.

  8. Though this may sound impossible, including DNA code of the card holder into the UID card has a number of benefits.
    a. Duplicacy of cards can be avoided.
    b. Criminals can be tracked in a so called jiffy!
    c. positive identification of the deceased in a natural or man made disaster.
    d. Kumbh ke mele me bichde hue bhai logon ko mila sakte hain?!
    and many many more.
So I request Mr. Nilekani to look into the suggestion.
